ENVIRONMENTAL, SOCIAL AND GOVERNANCE (ESG)

Extends across IAIDI's Thematic Areas

Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) is a core cross-cutting pillar in IAIDI’s programming, guiding responsible, inclusive, and sustainable development across all thematic areas. Within sustainable agriculture, ESG principles are applied through the promotion of climate-smart practices, soil and water conservation, biodiversity protection, and the responsible use of inputs. IAIDI supports farmers to adopt environmentally sound technologies that enhance productivity while minimizing ecological degradation and greenhouse gas emissions.

In nutrition programming, ESG is integrated by encouraging sustainable food systems that prioritize locally sourced, diverse, and nutritious foods while reducing food loss and waste. Social considerations ensure that nutrition interventions are inclusive, equitable, and sensitive to vulnerable populations, while governance mechanisms promote accountability in the delivery of nutrition services.

Across value chains and inclusive markets, ESG is operationalized by strengthening transparency, ethical business practices, and environmental compliance among actors. IAIDI promotes responsible sourcing, fair trade, and inclusive business models that provide equitable opportunities for smallholders, women, and youth, while ensuring that market expansion does not lead to environmental harm or social exclusion.

Livelihood and resilience interventions incorporate ESG by supporting adaptive strategies that are environmentally sustainable and socially inclusive. This includes building community resilience to climate change, promoting green jobs, and ensuring that livelihood diversification does not compromise natural resources or community cohesion.

Capacity strengthening further reinforce ESG by equipping stakeholders with knowledge on environmental stewardship, social inclusion, and good governance practices. IAIDI emphasizes participatory approaches, transparency, and accountability systems that strengthen institutional integrity and community trust.

By embedding ESG across all its thematic areas, IAIDI ensures that its interventions contribute to long-term sustainability, social equity, and responsible governance, ultimately driving resilient and inclusive development outcomes.
