SEED SYSTEMS

Within IAIDI's Sustainable Agriculture

Seed systems are fundamental to agricultural transformation, food security, and resilience to climate and economic shocks. Effective seed systems support research, quality assurance, extension services, and efficient distribution networks, enabling farmers to access high-quality, certified, affordable, and locally adaptable seeds. Understanding seed security is essential for designing effective seed support programs, assessing agricultural interventions, and improving both seed and food security outcomes.

IAIDI promotes community-based seed systems that strengthen smallholder farmers’ access to climate-smart, drought-tolerant, biofortified, and high-yielding crop varieties. Through partnerships with agricultural research institutions, NASC, INGO, NNGO, CSOs, Seed companies, universities, extension actors, and farmer organizations, IAIDI supports local seed production quality assurance and distribution systems to ensure the timely availability of improved seeds.

These interventions enhance agricultural productivity, encourage sustainable and climate-resilient farming practices, improve nutrition and household incomes, and contribute to resilient livelihoods and inclusive economic growth within farming communities.
