IAIDI recognizes that poverty, displacement, climate shocks, and insecurity have eroded the coping capacity of millions of rural households, particularly women, youth, persons with disabilities, and IDPs particularly in Northern Nigeria. In fragile contexts across Northcentral, Northeast, and Northwest Nigeria, traditional livelihoods in maize, rice, soybeans, and millet are repeatedly disrupted by floods, drought, conflict, and market volatility. 

To break this cycle, IAIDI integrates Social Protection as a core enabler under its Livelihood and Resilience Thematic Area, ensuring that humanitarian response transitions seamlessly into sustainable development. This aligns with IAIDI’s ESG commitment:

Partnerships for Systems Strengthening 
IAIDI does not build parallel systems, we formulate partnership: 

• Social: Prioritizes equity, inclusion, and protection of the most vulnerable through targeted, participatory delivery.
• Environmental: Links safety nets to climate-smart practices so recovery does not degrade natural resources.
• Governance: Uses transparent targeting, community accountability, and partnerships with state MDAs to strengthen local systems.

• Promote: Build human capital and productive assets so women, youth, and smallholder farmers can move beyond subsistence. 
• Transform: Address structural barriers by linking safety nets to financial inclusion, market access, and policy advocacy for inclusive agrifood systems.

• Adaptive Livelihoods: Cash transfers are timed with cropping calendars so beneficiaries invest in climate-smart soybeans and early-maturing millet, not just food. 
• Diversification: VSLA loans enable women to move from rain-fed rice to dry-season vegetable gardens + poultry, spreading risk. 
• Disaster Preparedness: Community grain banks and savings groups serve as first-line responders before external aid arrives, cutting recovery time. 
• Market Systems: Social protection beneficiaries are graduated into IAIDI’s inclusive value chains, accessing contract farming, aggregation, and fair prices for rice/soybeans.

• Gender & Protection Mainstreaming: All targeting uses IAIDI’s GBV risk matrix. Separate distribution lines, female staff, and PSEA messaging are standard. 
• Inclusion: Data disaggregated by sex, age, disability. Sign language and pictorial tools used for low-literacy PWDs.
• Community Accountability: Feedback committees with 50% women/youth; toll-free line + suggestion boxes. Quarterly “social audits” where communities score IAIDI’s performance.
• MEAL Integration: We ensures real-time tracking of food security (FCS, rCSI), income, and protection outcomes. Digital dashboards inform adaptive management.

• Government: Align with Benue State Social Investment Programme, SEMA, and Ministry of Agriculture to co-fund safety nets and share beneficiary registries. 
• Private Sector: Partner with processors to redeem input vouchers, ensuring CVA stimulates local markets, not inflation. 
• Humanitarian-Development-Peace Nexus: Coordinate with UN, INGOs, and local CSOs so IAIDI’s safety nets fill gaps and prepare households for longer-term programs.
